    Therapists are at least a master’s level or licensed. Medical providers are board certified psychiatrists or Nurse practitioners.
    Psychiatrists treat clients primarily by prescribing medication, psychologists use tests and other assessment tools to measure and observe a client’s behavior to arrive at a diagnosis and guide treatment; while therapists mainly rely on providing talk and/or behavioral therapy.

    A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that can prescribe medication. A psychologist performs tests to evaluate, measure, and observe behaviors, emotions and thoughts. These tests determine the cause, severity, and duration of symptoms.

    For medication management, you will be assessed by a psychiatrist who will determine the need for medication. If needed, you will be prescribed medication.
